Species and characteristics
The species of subg. Potatoe, often known as the Potato Vines are characterised by their
- habit of vine or creeper
- lacking prickles
- usually glabrous, apart from a few simple hairs
- leaves simple or often lobed to midrib
- paniculate inflorescences
- red or black-purple fruits
Members of the group occuring in Australia are all introduced. They are S. dulcamara, S. laxum, S. palitans (S. radicans), S. seaforthianum, S. triflorum and S. tuberosum.
